Frequently Asked Questions
Why hire an architect?
Your architect is your ally in the construction process. He is your bridge between the wish and the reality of home construction. He will draw your plans, help specify building materials, assist you with the selection of a contractor and be in your corner to assure that the project is built per your wishes and his drawings.
How much will my project cost?
Once you have an idea of what you want to build, if it is a simple project, you can contact contractors who should be able to give you a ball park figure without the need for drawings. If the project is more than just a small room addition or a garage, an architect should be employed to get commit your idea to paper. Then a contract can be approached for an estimate.
How do I find the right contractor?
Ask friends who they have had success with. Interview at least 3 contractors and ask for references. Different contractors can be good for different types of projects.
Will my architect help me get my building permit?
Yes. The drawings he creates will be necessary for you to obtain a building permit. He knows the code officials, the rules and the process to help you quickly through the permitting process.
Can I bring plan ideas to the table?
Sure. We love it when our clients bring ideas to the process. A good architect will listen and learn about your needs, use those ideas as a starting point, then add his experience and design talents to make your ideas even better.
How long does the process take?
The design process usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. At the end of that time, you will have detailed construction drawings and a dependable cost estimate for construction.
Will the architect help me to understand all this? I have never been through this before.
A good architect is like a guide to a foreign city. He has been through the process many times and his experience will be your ticket to a smooth design and construction experience.
